2013 SAISA Team Race District Championship

Saturday:
9 teams from SAISA including teams from the Bahamas and US Virgin Islands checked in at 8am saturday morning and rigged 18 C420's equippedwith colored team racing jibs. The breeze was from an unstable easterly direction which made for variable conditions throughout the day and very challenging, tactical sailing. Wind speed ranged from 2-10 knots . A full Round Robin of 36 races was completed at 1430. All races had two umpires. There was one expedited protest hearing. The protest was disallowed. At the conclusion of the day St Thomas Aquinas, Antilles School, Tampa Jesuit and Shorecrest advanced to the Championship Round on Sunday. All other teams were invited to participate in consolation round.

Sunday:
4 Championship Round teams and teams from Lucaya and Oxbridge rigged for racing Sunday. Breeze today 6-12 knots with more consistent direction. 12 Championship races and 5 Consolation races were completed at 1300. Consolation races were not scored at the teams' request. All Championship races had three umpires. One yellow flag hearing resulted in a DSQ in race 5. Congratulations to Antilles School followed by runner up St Thomas Aquinas. These teams will represent SAISA at the National Championship to be held at Davis Island next month. Third place team, Tampa Jesuit will represent SAISA at the Founders Trophy in Milwaukee.

Many thanks to the Davis Island Yacht Club for permitting the use of their wonderful facilities, the St Petersburg Yacht Club for lending 6 boats at the last minute to accomodate late registrations, a host of volunteers shoreside and on the water that made 53 races possible, Kevin Fouche and Steve Darcy for lending their sailboats to facilitate on the water changes and spectating, umpires Phil Pape, Eric Robbins, Bob Kroetsch and Scott Hogan and tech guru, Tom Leobold,
who made streaming video and live scoring from the water possible.
